From March 20 to April 3, 2020, residents are invited to express their views in an internet survey about the intention to create Laflora wind power park in post-harvested peatland in Kaigu Mire, Jelgava municipality.
The survey is a part of the preparation of the environmental impact assessment report on Laflora wind farm project, in order to find out the opinion and awareness of the local population about the plan, as well as their main concerns. Its results will be summarized in a report and submitted to the State Environmental Bureau.
The questionnaire can be filled in anonymously. It is administered by the international environmental consulting company Estonian, Latvian & Lithuanian Environment. In the coming months, residents will also have the opportunity to participate in the public consultation of the plans of Laflora wind farm.
As already reported, the construction of wind farm is planned in Jelgava municipality, in Kaigu Mire. It will be located in Laflora owned post-harvested peatland, surrounded by forest. It will produce “green” energy from renewable energy sources for the company's own consumption and for public market. Within a year, this wind farm with 22 wind turbines would be able to produce such an amount of electricity (300,000 MWh), which is comparable to about 5% of the total annual electricity consumption in Latvia.
